    Synopsis

When dusk falls, nightmares become reality-
Dr. Elise Hanover quite literally lives for her job-since quitting would mean meeting a silver bullet with her name on it. She works alone, struggling to unlock the mysteries of an affliction that should only exist in nightmares. But Elise knows from personal experience just how real it is. Because the first time its deadly power pulsed through her veins was the last time she saw the love of her life. Until now...

    and forbidden passion is unleashed...
The surprise visit from FBI agent Nic Franklin is merely the first in a series of shocks. After her lab is firebombed and her most bloodthirsty test subject escapes, Elise and Nic have no choice but to join forces. Unfortunately, the situation in remote Fairhaven, Wisconsin is far from safe: Nic has too many questions about Elise's work and why she deserted him years ago; townsfolk are disappearing, and Elise feels her own condition intensifying in ways as terrifying and exhilarating as her rekindled attraction to Nic. Now, as a shadowy evil closes in, it's becoming all too clear that Elise is the only one who can stop it-if it doesn't stop her first...

"Guaranteed to please readers of paranormal, suspense, and romance...a winner on all counts!"
-Romance Reviews Today on BLUE MOON

    Publishers Weekly

Werewolves, witchie wolves, gypsies and trigger-happy werewolf hunters roam the landscape of Handeland's snappily written paranormal romance, the third in her Moon series (Blue Moon; Hunter's Moon). Dr. Elise Hanover is smart, cheeky and determined to protect humankind from the bloodthirsty werewolf population-even though she's a werewolf herself. Elise has concocted a serum to quell her blood lust, but she still turns furry when the moon is full, a fact that led her to walk away from a promising relationship years earlier. She gets a second chance, however, when her old beau, FBI agent Nic Franklin, arrives at the compound where she's been researching cures for werewolfism. In a breakneck sequence of events, the compound explodes; Elise and Nic flee to Fairhaven, Wis., where a handful of her co-workers are hunting werewolves; and they get caught up in solving the mystery of why so many people have gone missing in Fairhaven. In the process, Elise-Handeland's most appealing heroine yet-learns to embrace her inner canine. Though some of the plot twists will be old hat to those who have read the previous books, and Elise's co-workers have an annoying habit of wanting to shoot everyone (including Elise), this tense, banter-filled tale provides a few hours of solid entertainment. February 21, 2006: Elise Hanover's driving purpose is to cure lycanthropy, for she is afflicted with the disease, albeit she came to be so in a different manner than most werewolves. Her mother was bitten while pregnant, and Elise did not manifest the symptoms until she was grown, and fell in love. Because of this, she retreated from college life, sealing herself off as an ice queen, working for the Juger Sachers to find a cure. She has made some progress, and can cure a person if they take her serum before the first transformation, and can now keep herself from killing except on Edward's command. Now, things are starting to change. Her first love returns to her life Nic is now an FBI agent, investigating a series of deaths among criminals. Little does he know that Elise is the one who killed them for the JS society. No sooner has she gotten Nic out of her office than someone tries to kill Elise, sending her on the run with Nic. Her work is destroyed, her serum gone, and the full moon is coming. She must find Edward. When she does, things continue to go downhill. Edward is not at all happy with Elise for bringing Nic along, there is a new kind of werewolf on a killing spree, and Elise herself is becoming a new person. Her powers have increased, and love is making her harder for Edward to control. Elise is on the edge of something that will change her world forever, or kill her. ***** This is one book you can not put down. Elise's story builds gradually, revealing new things at a pace that allows you to absorb the information, then something else comes along immediately. Character development is superbly handled. The mystery and romance plots are tightly woven and complex, yet comprehensible. Fans of the series will be thrilled to find out more of Edward's history as an added bonus. *****

May 29, 2005: Seven years ago Elise Hanover left behind her beloved sweetheart Dominic ?Nic? Franklin for his sake as she feared her lust for him, which activated the lycanthropy virus inside her, might lead to her killing him. Elise became a research virologist seeking the cure to the disease that controls her while hiding in Montana working for the monster killing Jager Suchers of Edward Mandenauer. She keeps werewolves incarcerated in a basement prison as she experiments seeking the elixir that will cure her --- FBI Agent Nic arrives, but after she beats him up, he explains an email sent him to her remote lab. He needs Elise?s help as apparently many people have vanished under mysterious circumstances that imply a supernatural serial kidnapper perhaps killer behind it. As the wolves howl, her lab explodes with Nic and Elise observing in shock. Needing to get to Wisconsin to consult with their peers they travel together and Elise finds her love for Nic intensifying the virus that flows through her blood. She fears what will happen if he remains at her side when the full moon surfaces or what will happen to him if she is not there to protect him. --- The third ?Moon? supernatural romance (see BLUE MOON and HUNTERS MOON) is a fantastic tale starring two strong likable protagonists with a history and ever present desire between them that threatens the mission. The story line is action-packed but it is the nature o f Elise?s predicament that makes the novel a howling success. She knows that she must get her beloved to leave her as she did him, but if that fails she must protect him from werewolves and other monsters, but especially from her. --- Harriet Klausner
