    Synopsis

From Essence bestselling author Kayla Perrin comes the compelling story of three generations of African American women---of their deepest secrets and most cherished lies....

"Sensitively explores the relationships between mothers and daughters [and] insights into the power of love and the meaning of family."
    ---Publishers Weekly

"A mesmerizing story...will keep readers turning pages long into the night." ---Romantic Times BOOKclub

    "Gripping!" ---The New Pittsburgh Courier

    Publishers Weekly

In contrast to its well-constructed predecessor, The Sisters of Theta Phi Kappa (2001), Canadian author Perrin's second sorority-themed romantic suspense novel fails to grip. In the summer of 1975, the unsolved murder of a wayward teenage girl prompts Sylvia Grayson, matriarch of one of New Orleans' most elite old-money African-American families and one-time president of the Delta Gamma Psi sorority, to be even more protective of her lonely only child, Olivia, who loves the dark and mystery of night. Estranged from her mother, Olivia later becomes a successful horror writer and has a daughter, Rachelle. The author sensitively explores the relationships between mothers and daughters, but the action doesn't pick up until Rachelle reaches college age and considers following the family tradition by pledging for the Deltas. Strange events with voodoo overtones could have deadly consequences for Rachelle, particularly if a well-kept family secret gets out. Perrin knows her sorority politics and offers some insights into the power of love and the meaning of family, but a lack of focus and too much filler will frustrate many readers. March 21, 2006: I thought that this book would be about these girls in a soroity and there would be a girl who would run into problems and then went to her soroity sisters for help. This book was not what I expected it to be,this was so much more interesting. I don't feel the same about the book now that I have read it. This book had suprised me with all of this excitment. There are many characters like rachelle, sylvia, olivia, edward, harvey, belinda, and bernie. I liked this book because I couldn't put it down and thsi book was very esciting and kept me guessing. This book is fiction and the author of this book is Kayla Perrin. This book is very exciting. This book is appropiate for older teens and adults.

September 23, 2005: I just finished reading Delta Sisters and thought the author told the story wonderfully. I had my thoughts on who would be the mystery son, but they were wrong. I like that because I hate predicting book endings. I enjoyed the book. Looking forward to reading the latest work and making the referral to my bookclub. Thanks! dkj
