"Warmly engrossing...Sanders writes with wit and authority in this unusual gem of a love story."
CHICAGO TRIBUNE
Clover is a 10-year old black girl from a small town in South Carolina, whose life changes forever when her father dies and she is forced to forge a new relationship with the white stepmother she hardly knows. A beautiful, trenchant story of family lost and found, CLOVER is a unque and heartfelt reading experience for all ages.
After her father dies within hours of being married to a white woman, a ten-year-old black girl learns with her new mother to overcome grief and to adjust to a new place in their rural black South Carolina community.
Clover Hill, a shrewd 10-year-old South Carolina orphan, is raised by her stepmother, a white woman frowned upon by Clover's black kinfolk. ``Infusing her first novel with black vernacular as convincing as Alice Walker's, imaginative metaphors that rival Maya Angelou's and humor as delicious as Zora Neale Hurston's, Sanders has created a refreshing new voice,'' said PW. June 30, 2005: I loved this book. It is a beautiful and sometimes sad story about an African American girl and her White mother. Sanders writes about relationship issues in a subtle, not in your face, way. I love Sanders' down to earth style, and, after talking with her at a book signing, found her to be a truly delightful and friendly person. I would recommend any of her books.

December 08, 1999: This book is one of the best that I've read so far. It will help you to understand what it's like to live with a white when your black or the other way around. Clover is a wonderful novel that is an easy-to-read book. If you don't read the book Clover, then you'll never know what you're missing out on.
