It's Sunday morning. Where are all the men? Golfing? Playing softball? Watching the tube? Mowing the lawn? Sleeping? One place you won't find them is in church. Less than 40 percent of adults in most churches are men, and 20 to 25 percent of married churchgoing women attend without their husbands. And why are the men who do go to church so bored? Why won't they let God change their hearts?
David Murrow's groundbreaking new book reveals why men are the world's largest unreached people group. With eye-opening research and a persuasive grasp on the facts, Murrow explains the problem and offers hope and encouragement to women, pastors, and men. Why Men Hate Going to Church does not call men back to the church-it calls the church back to men.

August 11, 2007: Mr. Murrow tackles a complex topic with humor, self-deprecation, and logic. He uses excellent research materials to support his assertions, and does a good job of mixing Biblical study with modern analysis. My only criticism is that Mr. Murrow (especially early in the book) engages in some very ' broad-brush ' analyses of men who attend churches, and I think the reader needs to sort through some of Mr. Murrow's genuine zeal for this topic to clarify those issues the reader finds legitimate from those issues which Mr. Murrow wishes to sell to promote his cause. A generally-well-written and interesting volume, easy to read, and both entertaining and thought-provoking.

May 09, 2007: Some time ago, a pastor-friend of mine asked this very question. Although there are many reasons why men don't regularly attend church, a couple of reasons which this book 'somewhat' grapples with are... 1. Our Western Model of 'Doing Church' is far too domesticated. It has lost its 'wildness', spending too much time in the 'arrival' lounge of God's airport, and not enough in the 'departure' area. 2. With #1 in mind, another major reason is that the church has become highly feminized. Does anyone really think that men are interested in being corraled into a 'sharing' session? Stop trying to be women, and start honoring the 'image' which God created us to be - as men! Cpax Dei!
