    Synopsis

Young Louis Ives, recently fired from his teaching position for cross-dressing, moves to New York City on a whim and finds himself rooming with a flamboyant, eccentric playwright. Ames's hilarious novel follows the pair to art openings, where they pig out on free food, and transvestite bars, where Louis's obsessions are rekindled.

    San Francisco Chronicle

An endearing, entertaining story. . .a comic-erotic novel.

May 31, 2008: This is the third book from Jonathan Ames that I've read. I finished this one in less than a week. It was so great, I couldn't put it down. It's very unusual, sexual, awkward and the main characters are sometimes so strange it puts you off. But you can't help but want to know them even more. I recommend it highly.

December 01, 2005: I chuckled continually as I read this lovely comic novel. Ames has created several memorable characters, particularly in Henry Harrison, and a touching story about the relationship between Harrison and Louis Ives. While some readers seem to have focused on the book's sexual content, that material was only one aspect of it -- and anyone who focuses on it exclusively, or judges the book based solely on the sex, will miss the rest of this very funny offering. My only criticism (and a slight one at that) is that the ending was a little weak. But definitely recommended.
