Irreverent, hilarious and wildly popular, Silverstein's collection of verse is hard to put down. His black pen drawings are an integral part of the poems, which range from funny and gross to introspective or tender. Silverstein is a master at tickling the funny bone, and his book is definitely not just for kids!
A boy who turns into a TV set and a girl who eats a whale are only two of the characters in a collection of humorous poetry illustrated with the author's own drawings.
An ideal book for teachers to have handy . . . If you want to ungloom your day, start Where the Sidewalk Ends.
More Reviews and RecommendationsNot only was Shel Silverstein one of the funniest children’s book authors, he was also one of the most subversive. Through his irresistible rhymes, poems, and drawings, Silverstein made children feel like they were being spoken to as adults; and adults the chance to remember what it felt like to be a child.

November 11, 2009: I purchased this book to read to my children mainly due to the fond memories that I had from reading it as a kid. It is as good as I remember! Even better when seen through my children's eyes. It is a classic that all children at heart should have in their libraries!
