When dogs growl at other dogs, lunge at people, and bark at everything it's often mislabeled as "aggression." But most aggression is fear-based and should be treated as such. The appropriate term for this constellation of behaviors is "reactivity." This book helps the trainer and dedicated dog owner to understand the reactive dog and help him change for the better. The process is not an easy one, but once the changes begin to take shape owners become so encouraged that the rest of the process suddenly becomes easy! All training methods and classroom techniques are based on fun and on the development of a 'working relationship' with your dog. 125 pages, with over 50 photographs and illustrations to help you recognize and solve problems.
Ali Brown graduated from Ursinus College with a B.S. in Psychology, and earned her M.Ed. in Human Development / Behavioral Science from Lehigh University. Working primarily as a behavior therapist/consultant with mentally challenged children and adults, she made a fulfilling switch to working with dogs seven years ago. She is a professional member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers. Ali takes great pride in providing non-force training methods for dogs and their people. She lives, trains and works with Montana, a 16-year-old Border Collie mix, and Acacia and Bing, both Belgian Sheepdogs.

February 02, 2006: I have a reactive dog, or should i say i had a reactive dog. After reading Ms. Brown's book, I applied the concepts to my dog and he is now a different dog. I can now take him to parks etc. without hesitation. I now have the confidence he won't act out. The knowledge I gathered from this book is priceless. I recommend it highly!!!! A???!

February 01, 2006: I took in a stray terrier who was very friendly to people, but as time went on, it became apparent that he had many issues causing him great anxiety and that he was very noise reactive. He also was easily overstimulated by other excited dogs getting too close to him. Scaredy Dog helped me recognize situations that might be hard for him to handle, and helped me form a plan of approach to make the confusing world around him become less frightening. By following Ali's suggestions, my bond with this little guy has become strong, and he is now able to handle the environment around him with a lot more ease. Scaredy Dog was a huge part of my learning how to help my dog cope with stress.
