    Library Journal

In his latest work, Kurlansky is in command of every facet of this topic, and he conveys his knowledge in a readable, easy style. Deftly leading readers around the world and across cultures and centuries, he takes an inexpensive, mundane item and shows how it has influenced and affected wars, cultures, governments, religions, societies, economies, cooking (there are a few recipes), and foodsŠAn entertaining, informative read, this is highly recommended.

January 20, 2010: Enlightening, Interesting. The two words that coiuld best describe this book. Kurlansky sure does know how to write a book! He can take a seemingly unineresting topic - salt in this case - and make it an amazing ride through history. Packed with facts and knowledge, Salt: a World History is a good book for readers who want to read for a purpose. I really enjoyed this book because Kurlansky, more or less, poked fun at salt's rough past. The humor is what makes it a quick read. It makes you think twice about how you season your food!!

January 09, 2010: I loved this book! When I bought it, I couldn't imagine that it would be so interesting. It gives a great historical perspective on the production, use, etc. of salt and shows how it was intertwined in the history of the world.
