    Synopsis

A provocative look at today's leading porn stars combined with insightful, offbeat, and amusing texts by an all-star literary lineup.

In todays image-saturated, Internet-savvy world, the subject of pornography is out of the closet and all over the maintream media. XXX: 30 Porn Star Portraits, by renowned portrait photographer Timothy Greenfield-Sanders, features paired portraits (one clothed and one nude) of the top stars in pornographic film. A cross-section of straight and gay men and women is represented, from porn legends to rising stars. Performers in the book include celebrities such as Jenna Jameson (the leading porn star of our time), Ron Jeremy, and Nina Hartley, as well as fast-rising names like Sunrise Adams, Belladonna, and Chad Hunt.

The book includes short essays on the intersection of pornography and culture by a wide range of distinguished writers, from Salman Rushdie to John Malkovich, Nancy Friday to John Waters. XXX is a landmark artistic work that will contribute to the ongoing debate about the pornification of the culture at large.

March 19, 2006: Jenna Jameson, Briana Banks, Nina Hartley, Tera Patrick. The list of all these legendary & dreamy sexual goddesses goes on & on. Now finally a book on which to admire these ravishing women in their natural beauty. By natural, not just their 'birthday suits'. As much as I love seeing these girls entertain, alot of times I just want to gaze at them being themselves like supermodels on the cover of some big fashion magazine in a artistic form, like a stunning work of art. I love reading about their personal thoughts & getting to know them outside of their profession, disproving critics who wrongly claim that these people are incapable of feelings & are unintelligent . The only real con is that the book also has portraits of male stars which is a big turn-off. I'd have given this book a perfect five if not for the men's portraits. Still, this is worth every penny. I love you, Jenna & Briana. You two are just as gorgeous as Elle & Tyra.

April 28, 2005: Purely from a conceptual point of view this book gets 4 stars. Such a fantastic idea (great use of XXX/30 in the title) and a real human look into people you completed de-humanize most of the time. I found myself feeling guilty for approaching them in an objective way. I think a lot of pornstars try to find deeper meaning in what they do, when in reality what they do is extremely disposable. We cannot approach these people in a 'normal' way, because you don't normally get to see someone's body in full orgasm, 30 cm away with a digicam - but we can appreciate the deeper and emotional side to these kindrid spirits, and get a new reflective look into such a taboo subject.
