Synopsis

Set amid the wild and stormy Yorkshire moors, Wuthering Heights, an unpolished and devastating epic of childhood playmates who grow into soul mates, is widely regarded as the most original tale of thwarted desire and heartbreak in the English language.

Annotation

In early nineteenth-century Yorkshire, the passionate attachment between a headstrong young girl and a foundling boy brought up by her father causes disaster for them and many others, even in the next generation. Includes explanatory notes throughout the text, an introduction discussing the author and the background of the story, and a study guide.

Sunday Times (London)

Patricia Routledge's reading, with her subtle modulation and vocal range, irons out a possibly confusing plot, conveying the novel's dominating passion and power.

November 29, 2008: I wouldn't suggest reading this book when you're young. It may be a little too complicated. There is a lot of symbolism and at times you have to delve deeper than the surface to understand what's happening. The antagonist in this story is pure, unadulterated evil. A book is amazing when it can make you feel something and I can honestly say that I hated and wanted to kill this guy by the end of the book. This is a love story you won't soon forget. It evokes so many emotions it may make your head spin. I scarcely ever re-read a book, but I HAD to with this one. It's like when you watch a movie a second time and catch things you hadn't noticed the first time around. Again, simply amazing. A must read.

I Also Recommend: The Giver, The Odyssey, The Scarlet Letter.
