January 27, 2005: Thursday the 27th : Yesterday at the library I found a clearly written book called 'Write to the Point' by Salvatore Iacone. Each chapter includes various quotes by well-known people, for example the one by Jonathan Swift: ?Proper words in proper places make the true definition of style?(91). Iacone stresses the importance of a need for effective communication and to do so without obfuscating. Throughout this very transparent material the author emphasizes the need for clear communication with a purpose. Another of his quotes, this one by George Eliot, I thought was especially good: ?Blessed is the man [person] who, having nothing to say, abstains from giving words to that effect?(13). I have only a few words: Your book is great! Thank you for presenting all the useful ideas so clearly. Best regards, Egil Smedvig
