      Synopsis

Laurel was mesmerized, staring at the pale things with wide eyes. They were terrifyingly beautiful—too beautiful for words.

Laurel turned to the mirror again, her eyes on the hovering petals that floated beside her head. They looked almost like wings.

In this extraordinary tale of magic and intrigue, romance and danger, everything you thought you knew about faeries will be changed forever.

      Publishers Weekly

Pike's debut novel-a faerie story with a touch of Arthurian legend-offers a botanical twist on the genre. Laurel Sewell, the new girl in town, discovers a strange "zit" on her back, which blooms into a flower. With the help of her friend and growing love interest, David, with whom she entrusts this information, Laurel finds out that she is a faerie, and that faeries are really highly evolved plants (Pike gives readers hints: Laurel prefers to have lunch outside and eats little besides vegetables and Sprite). Tamani, her sexy faerie guardian, completes the love triangle, as he protects Laurel from encroaching dark forces and fills in the blanks about her past. As Laurel and David never muster much chemistry, her rocky journey of self-discovery is the main draw ("It makes me want to go home and go to sleep and wake up to find that all of this is a dream. That the flower, the bump, even public school never happened"). Pike's novel mythology should win fans for this book, billed as the first in a series. Ages 12-up. (May)

October 18, 2009: I found this book completely by accident-it was a suggestion on BN.com, so I took the chance. I really enjoyed the story more than I thought I would. The triangle between David, Laurel and Tamani is a familiar plot, but the background story is different and interesting. It makes me really look forward to the other three books coming soon. I look forward to the rest of series.

October 18, 2009: I love this books because it had realism and fantasy put together. It gave me a new view of faeries and people. I love this book because I love romance books and the passion between Laurel and Tamani is unmistakable. I also love the helpless,head-over-heels,friendship kind of love between David and Laurel. I also love adventure and my favorite part was when Laurel and David were trapped underwater and they just barely survived. I can't believe David did that for Laurel!!! I also love the part where Tamani gets shot in the leg to save Laurel from the ugly troll. Overall I thought it was a really good book and I recommend it for everyone. One more thing that I want to mention is that I like how David helps Laurel get over the fact that she is normal that a freak. Like I said great book for anyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
