Max is sent to bed without supper and imagines sailing away to the land of Wild Things, where he is made king.
Each word has been carefully chosen and the simplicity of the language is quite deceptive.
More Reviews and RecommendationsSometimes dark, sometimes gleefully silly, but always inventive, intelligent, and colorful, Maurice Sendak’s imaginatively illustrated children’s books never forget their audience. Although his classic Where the Wild Things Are was criticized upon its initial publication for being too frightening, children responded with enthusiasm to both its wonderfully zany artwork as well as to its honesty. Forty years later, they still do.

February 07, 2010: My mother read this to me as a child and now I see the younger generation reading it to their kids. Great story about a boy's wild side and a mother's love.

February 06, 2010: Once again, after many years a great child's read for an adult. my five year old liked it, also.

Max threatens to eat up his parents and the wild things. The wild things gnash their teeth and pretend to be scary but they have rather goofy, kind faces and Max isn't afraid of them.
