Biography

Sometimes dark, sometimes gleefully silly, but always inventive, intelligent, and colorful, Maurice Sendak’s imaginatively illustrated children’s books never forget their audience. Although his classic Where the Wild Things Are was criticized upon its initial publication for being too frightening, children responded with enthusiasm to both its wonderfully zany artwork as well as to its honesty. Forty years later, they still do.

October 18, 2008: Max, trying to escape his current fate, travels to a land where he finds he really didn't have it so bad. A great book with a great lesson. An excellent example of learning while you don't even know it. Get it, you'll like it.

September 18, 2008: Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak is an easy to book for children of all ages to read. It allows children to see how their imagination can grow and what it can really do. For example having a jungle grow in Max?s room. The illustrations in this book are very detailed, to help a young reader understand the story better. Max is not scared through out this story, instead he becomes their king. I think this book could be used to help children who are afraid of the dark or monsters to help overcome this fear. It also teaches children a lesson on how good home is even when they are in trouble. Home is always better than being out in the jungle with monsters. And at home they are the only monster.
