      Synopsis

No one knows why Dr. Lara Mallory opens up her medical practice in the rowdy Texas town where Tackett Oil owns everything. But everyone remembers her role in the well-publicized scandal that caused the downfall of White House hopeful Senator Clark Tackett. Now the iron-fisted matriarch of Tackett Oil intends to use her money and power to drive Lara out of town...especially when Lara meets Key, the hell-raising, youngest Tackett son. Following a cataclysmic meeting, this determined doctor and brash, daring pilot find themselves hurtling on a dangerous quest for the one secret that can destroy the Tackett empire-and anyone who dares to challenge its power.

      Annotation

The phenomenal Sandra Brown weaves intrigue and mystery into the latest and most suspenseful of her 13 NYT bestsellers since 1990. Set against the background of a Texas oil empire. Dr. Lara Mallory takes over a medical practice left to her by a scion of the oil dynasty--a recent suicide. To offset community hostility, Lara seeks help from a man who may do her more harm than good. Advertising ties in with Brown's simultaneous new hardcover release, Charade.

May 16, 2006: Sandra Brown has the talent to do it all, from her earliest work to her latest thriller. I have all of her novels...but this one is special. You are drawn into the story and taken for an exciting, heart thumping ride. I have a shelf of 'keepers' and this is one I've re-read yearly since it was first published. Can't give it a better recommendation than that.
