Synopsis

JESS MASTRIANI

was misunderstood by her teachers and had a crush on the local bad boy, but that didn't mean she was trouble. But trouble found her when she survived a lightning strike and discovered that a newfound talent had been bestowed upon her.

Now, whenever she sees a picture of a missing child, Jess knows exactly where he or she is when she wakes up the next morning. Reuniting lost children with their desperate parents is one thing, but Jess must choose whether to use her power for good...or for evil.

Children's Literature

Meg Cabot, writing as Jenny Carroll in this reissue of the first "1-800-WHERE-R-YOU" series has perfectly captured the attitude and language of her high school characters as she spins a fast-moving and enjoyable read. Jessica Mastriani is a regular in the counselor's office and detention hall because of her penchant for solving problems with her fists. It is always for what she considers to be the best of reasons, usually defending her schizophrenic brother or her brilliant, funny, and fashion-challenged best friend, Ruth. Unfortunately Ruth decides they should get in shape by walking home on the day a storm hits and the girls are forced to seek shelter under the bleachers. Jessica is struck by lightning and nothing will ever be the same. She wakes up the next morning knowing exactly where to find the two missing children pictured on the milk carton and her mysterious new skill attracts the attention of the FBI, who whisk her away to a remote and supposedly inactive military base. To compound problems, one of the missing children, who did not want to be found, is now running from an abusive father and Jess feels compelled to help him. She manages to get a message to a very cute and slightly dangerous guy she met in detention, and he helps her escape the FBI and reunite the little boy with his mother. Readers will want to get to know these somewhat quirky and resourceful characters better, and one can only hope they do not decide to emulate some of their law-breaking tactics.

This was my first book by Meg that i read. I finished the series a couple of days ago. It is one of my favorite series out there. Jess is great and you cant help but agree with her in beating up the people she beats up. Rob is really cute and you will fall inlove with him too, just like Jess. My favorite book of the series is Missing you. But this was an AMAZING beginning.. This was my first book by Meg Cabot but it wont be last..
