    Synopsis

With nowhere to go, no one to help her, Leigh fled into the arms of Luke Casteel! Leigh Van Voreen had to escape from Boston's Farthinggale Manor. The foul secret she harbored within her seemed to darken her life forever. Jillian, her mother, would not believe her...and Tony Tatterton, her stepfather, had betrayed her most cruelly.

But the pure devotion of Luke Casteel promised her hope and respect. Only Luke knew her deepest of secrets...only Luke would love and protect her. Bravely she bore the suspicions of the Willies' hillfolk, as she tried to grasp the happiness that had so long eluded her. Leigh prayed with all her heart that her bright, shining dreams would save her from tragedy at last...

    Biography

"The face of fear I display in my novels is not the pale specter from the sunken grave, nor is it the thing that goes bump in the night," V. C. Andrews once told Douglas E. Winter. "Mine are the deep-seated fears established when we are children, and they never quite go away: the fear of being helpless, the fear of being trapped, the fear of being out of control."

October 23, 2007: Leigh's story was probably the most interesting one out of the Casteel series. One thing that disappointed me though was how Leigh's father just ignored her cries for help at the end. And, we never found out if he knew that Leigh was his own daughter or not. Many things were left with a big question mark. For example, what happened to Jennifer and Leigh's boyfriend? Why didn't they try to find her after they found out she was missing? Why did the servants not call the police when they found out that Leigh ran away? Why is it that Tony told Jillian all about Leigh's 'promiscious ways' and Jillian never confronted her about it? I mean, the story line was extroadinary but it felt sort of too rushed at the end. Things were left unanswered and maybe the ghost writer wanted things that way, but it does leave the reader a bit clueless about some things. I loved the story though and highly recommend it.

There is big editing problem with this book...by Anonymous

August 21, 2006: I used to like this book, and I suppose I never would have discovered the MAJOR flaw in it if I hadn't read it time and again. Leigh is 13 years old in the book and she overhears a conversation early on that her father is not her father, that Mr. Van Voreen was tricked into marrying her mother and the unborn Leigh was passed off as his own. By the end of the book Leigh reveals to her mother that she knows Jillian was pregnant with her when Jillian was Leigh's age. That is impossible. If Jillian was 40 in Web of Dreams then she would have been an old maid of 27 when she had had Leigh. It is very unlikely a beauty like Jillian would have gone unmarried for that long in that day and age especially in Texas, if Jillian really was Leigh's age when Leigh was born she would have only been 26 in Web of Dreams. Read it and see that the numbers don't add up. The only way it is possible is if the child Grandma Janna and Jillian are speaking of was miscarried and Leigh was born years later, because no one is pregnant for 14 years. Can't believe the editors missed such a glaring mistake. I don't know if the ghost writer was writing the series by that point but I think the quality of this book suffers if for no other reason than it was obviously rushed to press.
