Synopsis

She thought she'd have more time. Laurie Notaro figured she had at least a few good years left. But no-it's happened. She has officially lost her marbles. From the kid at the pet-food store checkout line whose coif is so bizarre it makes her seethe "I'm going to kick his hair's ass!" to the hapless Sears customer-service rep on the receiving end of her Campaign of Terror, no one is safe from Laurie's wrath. Her cranky side seems to have eaten the rest of her-inner-thigh Chub Rub and all. And the results are breathtaking.

Her riffs on e-mail spam ("With all of these irresistible offers served up to me on a plate, I WANT A PENIS NOW!!"), eBay ("There should be an eBay wading pool, where you can only bid on Precious Moments figurines and Avon products, that you have to make it through before jumping into the deep end"), and the perils of St. Patrick's Day ("When I'm driving, the last thing I need is a herd of inebriates darting in and out of traffic like loaded chickens") are the stuff of legend. And for Laurie, it's all true.

June 08, 2006: Let me tell you...this author is HILARIOUS! When I read this book, I was laughing out loud...at work (on lunch breaks, etc...) My co-workers thought I had gone crazy, but then I gave them the book. One-by-one, each of their offices were filled with hysterical laughter. Laurie Notaro is a master at describing life in the funniest way possible. I literally have recommended this book to all of my friends & family.

April 27, 2006: I picked this book up at Target thinking it'd be a funny, quick read. I'd never read Notaro before and was bored. I found it overall pretty entertaining although this 223 page book turned out to be a month's undertaking, not because the language was hard or the print was microscopic but simply because I couldn't get into it. I love a good book that you just can't put down and yet I hate starting books and not finishing them so I finally buckled down and finished the thing but it felt sort of like homework. This book has its funny moments. Although the sometimes forced pop culture references were annoying I found myself laughing more and more towards the latter end but truth be told it lags a bit and you just might find yourself struggling not to put it down during the whole flippy hair thing. To prospective readers, its witty enough, hang in there. It gets good but don't expect this to be the best book you've even read.
