September 18, 2009: Jeffers has a thing for Jane Austen books. She has 3 others based on Pride and Prejudice. This one is set up for Austen's last book Persuasion. It is told from Captain Frederick Wentworth's point of view. It starts with Wentworth and Anne Elliot together, and it retells what happens between them in a flashback. Then, as she did previously, Jeffers adds what she thinks will happen to the couple after their marriage. It was a bit stark to see Anne Elliot overcome her propensity to allow others to sway her opinions, but it was a nice change of pace. She allows herself the freedom of choice - something most readers wanted for her when they read the original. She chooses Wentworth, and she chooses a new lifestyle. The book is set up for a sequel because the author leaves Wentworth in a position of authority as a war hero working for the government. I loved the idea that Wentworth would outrank Sir Walter in the end. In the original, Mary Musgrove worries for this very thing when she realizes Anne and Frederick are to marry. Give it back to those who shunned Wentworth in the beginning...very appropriate. I enjoyed Jeffers' other books - the ones based on P&P, and I was not disappointed with this one.

I Also Recommend: Darcy's Passions, Darcy's Temptation, Vampire Darcy's Desire.
