Waterbugs and Dragonflies is a graceful fable written by Doris Stickney who sought a meaningful way to explain to neighborhood children the death of a five-year-old friend. The small book is beautifully illustrtated by artist Gloria Ortiz Hernandez.
After a water bug suddenly leaves her pond and is transformed into a dragonfly, her friends' questions about such departures are like those children ask when someone dies.

March 16, 2009: The message in this book is concisely simple and classically stated. I keep it in my daycare for children dealing with death, and have given it to families who are grieving. It's sweet and powerful, and good for any age.

February 12, 2003: A pastor gave us this book for my 3 year old son when my Dad died. It is a wonderful story that doesn't "scream death." It is thought provoking, yet offers possible answers to questions at the same time. I have given this book to other friends whose children are grieving. It is always appreciated.
