April 30, 2008: This is a very fun book to read, whether you know Washington or not. If you're thinking about taking your children there (ages 9-14), it would be a good book to share with them. The stories are very entertaining, while still imparting facts about our nation's capital. I thought I was pretty well informed about Washington, till I read this book and found much more to learn.

April 29, 2008: Rooney and Johnston really did a bang-up job in celebrating history as they told stories about the ghosts of this magnificent city. Who knew that there was a slave market in the city or that Lincoln saw his future or the inhabitants of the Old Stone House? These two tell some great stories. and I find I am learning about my country at the same time. As I can read them, I can imagine being there watching the antics of Belle Boyd as she sang her Confederate songs in the Yankee jail or in Mary Surratt?s shoes as she waits for her son to rescue her. Their stories are part of us. They are part of our history. Great summer reading.
