    Synopsis

The colorful new vision from fantasy's master of magic

    Publishers Weekly

Epic fantasy heavyweight Sanderson (the Mistborn series) pens a powerful stand-alone tale of unpredictable loyalties, dark intrigue and dangerous magic. To keep a treaty made long ago, the king of Idris must send his daughter to marry Susebron, the God King of Hallandren. Loath to part with his eldest daughter, Vivenna, King Dedelin instead sends his youngest daughter, tomboyish 17-year-old Siri, who struggles to make sense of the schemers and spies in Susebron's court. Hoping to rescue her sister, Vivenna joins a group of Idrian operatives with questionable motives. As Vivenna comes to terms with her magical abilities, resurrected hero Lightsong questions the role of the undead Returned Gods, who command Hallandren's mighty army of zombie soldiers. Sanderson melds complex, believable characters, a marvelous world and thoughtful, ironic humor into an extraordinary and highly entertaining story. (June)

September 05, 2009: sanderson writes an interesting story with deep characters with twists and turns of the plot regularly. Kind of similar to Elantris in both the characters and general feel. If you enjoyed his Elantris you will enjoy this one as well.

August 25, 2009: Brandon Sanderson surprised me with this book. I've read other books by him and I enjoyed them. Sanderson is original, a great writer, and his heroes/heroines are characters you will never forget. Most of his books have a few recurring themes. He is obsessed with religion and God in general. He also has a weird obsession with the human perfection and immortality.

This book is my least favorite of the author's books. I was just getting into the book and beginning to understand how Breath and Biochromatic aura works when I realized that the book was coming to an end. There was so much that still needed to be explained and I had no idea how he Sanderson would do it in just a few more chapters. To my horror and disappointment, the author rushed through the ending. The plot did not even reach it's peak when all of a sudden everything is solved and everyone is happy. Personally, I think he ran out of time and just needed a way to finish up whatever he had. The cover art was the best part of the book.

Save your money and wait for it to come out in paperback.
