    Synopsis

"How about a story? Spin us a yarn."
Instantly, Phoebe Winterbottom came to mind.
"I could tell you an extensively strange story," I warned. "Oh,
    good!" Gram said. "Delicious!"
And that is how I happened to tell them about Phoebe, her disappearing
    mother, and the lunatic.

In her own award-winning style, Sharon Creech intricately weaves together two tales, one funny, one bittersweet, to create a heartwarming, compelling, and utterly moving story of love, loss, and the complexity of human emotion.

    Annotation

After her mother leaves home suddenly, thirteen-year-old Sal and her grandparents take a car trip retracing her mother's route. Along the way, Sal recounts the story of her friend Phoebe, whose mother also left.

    Children's Literature

Salamanca Tree Hiddle, 13, believes her mother will return before the tulips bloom. During a car trip from Ohio to Idaho with her grandparents, true originals, Sal relates all that has happened the past year after her mother's sudden departure from home. A story within a story, Sal tells about Phoebe Winterbottom, her charismatic friend, who exaggerates, who believes she is being stalked by a "lunatic," who avoids cholesterol, unless it's her mother's brownies, and whose mother also has left home. Themes of love, life, death, and relationships are at the core of this story which is playful, imaginative, and satisfying. Awarded the 1995 Newbery Medal.

    Biography

Winner of the 1995 Newbery Medal, Sharon Creech once had this advice for future Newbery winners: "Take a deep breath. You will have about 30 minutes between the call announcing your book is the winner and the onslaught of complete chaos. You won't know what hit you, but get ready: You're going on the ride of your life."

January 19, 2010: Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech is a great book with an interesting plot. The story takes place on a road trip from Ohio to Idaho in the late nineteen hundreds. While driving during the trip Sal is telling her gram and gramp about her best friend Pheobe Winterbottom. In Sal's mind this trip is all about finding her long lost mother who disappeared one day. They made many stops on the trip and one was to a lake that a nice boy called private property, where her gram got bit by a snake. Later on grams had to get rushed to the hospital after having a seizure. After that the car was given to Sal to drive and finish off the journey at only thirteen years of age! Next she drives to Idaho from the hospital in Coeur d'Alene and finds her mother somewhere she would never think of, following getting being pulled over and brought to a local caretaker's house. soon After finding out some grim news they head back to Ohio.

There were some parts in this book I loved and some parts I didn't really care for. One positive was that it won a Newberry Medal and I agree, it is a great book. Also you might get a little worried in the end, but the outcome will leave you very pleased. And lastly it is very addicting to read because it has such an interesting plot. There were a couple negatives but not many. One is that it was exceedingly confusing when it went from with Pheobe then back to Sal's grandparents. Also there were some dreadful and disappointing parts. Lastly Sal's mother could have been in a much better place! The book was great and there were great elements to it.

Sharon Creech in this novel had a great writing style! This book was written in the first person point of view. Also she wrote very clearly and precisely. Another thing is I understood everything she was trying to explain throughout the novel. Lastly she had understandable vocabulary, and it was at the perfect level for me. I think Sharon's writing style fit perfectly with the novel.

I would defiantly recommend this novel to all ages! One example of why I love it so much is because of the fabulous ending, but you will have to read the book to find it out. Also it has a very nice flow to the whole plot. Lastly, I loved how Sal finished the journey even though her grandparents couldn't continue on with her. I thought that part was great! Some similar novels to Walk Two Moons are Getting Near to Baby, Keeper of the Night, and Belle Prafter's Boy. Also I have previously read other great books. One is The Outsiders which is a fast action novel about gangs. Also The Boy in the Striped Pajamas that takes place back during the holocaust and shows how bad it really was. Lastly, Shiloh is about an abandoned dog getting rescued. Those are some novels I would highly recommend and why I would recommend Walk Two Moons. I know I loved this book and maybe you would too!

January 13, 2010: First off, this was an awesome book. I love how it was written. The main character is Salamica but everyone calls her Sal. Read this book and you will not be disappionted. It shows real life lessons and teaches you about a real girl. Walk Two Moons is very funny; it also shows a lot of emotion. What I really like is how I can relate to this novel in more than one way, it has a lot of irony. This is my favorite book.
