    Synopsis

"How about a story? Spin us a yarn."
Instantly, Phoebe Winterbottom came to mind.
"I could tell you an extensively strange story," I warned. "Oh,
    good!" Gram said. "Delicious!"
And that is how I happened to tell them about Phoebe, her disappearing
    mother, and the lunatic.

In her own award-winning style, Sharon Creech intricately weaves together two tales, one funny, one bittersweet, to create a heartwarming, compelling, and utterly moving story of love, loss, and the complexity of human emotion.

    Annotation

After her mother leaves home suddenly, thirteen-year-old Sal and her grandparents take a car trip retracing her mother's route. Along the way, Sal recounts the story of her friend Phoebe, whose mother also left.

    Children's Literature

The struggle of thirteen year old Salamance (Sal) to understand and deal with her mother's disappearance unfolds while on a cross-country trip with her eccentric grandparents. Sal tells them the story of her friend Phoebe whose mother has also left home, but in reality it is her own story. A funny, mysterious, and touching novel. Newbery Award winner.

    Biography

Winner of the 1995 Newbery Medal, Sharon Creech once had this advice for future Newbery winners: "Take a deep breath. You will have about 30 minutes between the call announcing your book is the winner and the onslaught of complete chaos. You won't know what hit you, but get ready: You're going on the ride of your life."

October 31, 2009: I do not want to affend anybody:but the truth of the matter is that this is a discrace to literature. I remember i had to read this for school and i wanted to tear my eyes out. Such a poorly written book, revolting dialogue, not at all descriptive, i had no idea what was going on:its unspeakable. It will be a waste of money if u buy this book. It is the worst story since The Pearl by John Steinback. DO NOT READ!!!!!
