In this rich, vibrant tale, Diana Gabaldon continues the story of Claire Randall and Jamie Fraser that began with the now-classic novel Outlander and continued in Dragonfly in Amber. Sweeping us from the battlefields of eighteenth-century Scotland to the exotic West Indies, Diana Gabaldon weaves magic once again in an exhilarating and utterly unforgettable novel....
Their love affair happened long ago by whatever measurement Claire Randall took. Two decades before, she had traveled back in time and into the arms of a gallant eighteenth-century Scot named Jamie Fraser. Then she returned to her own century to bear his child, believing him dead in the tragic battle of Culloden. Yet his memory has never lessened its hold on her ... and her body still cries out for him in her dreams.
When she discovers that Jamie may have survived, Claire must choose her destiny. And as time and space come full circle, she must find the courage to face what awaits her ... the deadly intrigues raging in a divided Scotland ... and the daring voyage into the dark unknown that lies beyond the standing stones.
Gabaldon mesmerized readers with a love story that spanned two centuries in Outlander and Dragonfly in Amber. This new novel in Gabaldon's highly acclaimed time-travel saga again features intrepid time traveler Claire Randall and Jamie Fraser, the gallant 18th-century Scottish clansman who stole Claire's heart and whose memory will not loosen its hold on her, even across the chasm of centuries.
This triumphant conclusion to Gabaldon's time-travel trilogy was a PW bestseller.
More Reviews and RecommendationsAre they histories? Fantasies? Science fiction? While it may be impossible to categorize the books Diana Gabaldon calls “historical fantasias,” it hardly matters to the author’s huge and loyal fan base, all of whom are just eager to devour Gabaldon’s richly detailed, complexly plotted, extravagantly romantic romps through time, space, and breathtaking landscapes.

February 01, 2010: DG did it again by proving that TRUE LOVE cannot be severed by centuries of separation. However, more unsuspecting conflicts (in the forms of Laoghaire, Jenny, Lady Geneva, Willie, Lord John Grey, pirates, and a few British Naval officials) can certainly try. But will any of them succeed? Read the book...you'll love it!
