Reviewer:Celso Agner, MD, MSc (University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine)
Description:In an era when endovascular neurosurgery is developing at a fast pace and training programs in cerebrovascular surgery need to emphasize complex neurosurgical approaches and technologies, this book comes at a most appropriate time, since it focuses on the new developments in this field.
Purpose:The purpose is to present complex neurosurgical approaches to vascular neurosurgical pathologies. In an orderly fashion, leading authorities present their perspectives on the surgical anatomy and approaches to diverse cerebrovascular conditions.
Audience:Neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, neuroendovascular surgeons, and neurologists are the main audience. The authors are all leading experts in the field of cerebrovascular surgery, with many years of experience in the field.
Features:Divided into three sections, this book addresses all aspects of cerebrovascular surgery, including intracranial aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, cavernous malformations, and cerebral ischemic conditions. It is more than an operative atlas, since it goes well beyond the description of surgical procedures, patient positioning, anesthetic considerations, and patient selection. The unique intraoperative photography, along with sketches of surgical approaches and the thorough references to the current literature, make this book one of a kind. The editor has once again done an excellent job of organizing a compilation of many years of combined experience from world renowned cerebrovascular surgeons.
Assessment:This is a practical guideand atlas for surgical procedures for cerebrovascular diseases. It is well suited for neurosurgical, neurological, and radiological libraries. There is no direct comparison to this book, since most books on cerebrovascular diseases are descriptive and do not get into procedural details and nuances such as this one does.
