September 16, 2008: Take it from the title, 'Unbeatable Chess Lessons' provides games used by the author for many years in formal lessons. This experience has paid off in a great book that provides an explanation of the ideas behind each move. As part of an excellent series, this book has a follow-up, 'More Unbeatable Chess Lessons', so you aren't left hanging and saying 'what next?' The style of the author provides a very understandable methodology that is suitable for upper grade elementary school children right on up to and including the adult reader.

September 10, 2008: There are some half dozen chess books in print that provide move by move commentary. This is a wonderful teaching format and whereas, there isn't a single 'bad' bood that does this, UNBEATABLE CHESS LESSONS leads the pack. The author has a very unique understanding of the mind of the player who is just beyond being a beginner through being an intermediate player. This makes it so that the material is focus on just what you need to know and answers the questions that would most naturally be asked. The games themselves are from master level on up to world champion level. There is a good balance in the selection of games to cover all phases of the game and cover important concepts. Some examples of games I really like are: a. Hamppe vs. Meitner showing both the art of attack and defense against an exposed King b. Snyder vs. Schmeleff where a combination in the opening is used to setup a won endgame 'the advanced planning and transition from opening to endgame is wonderful', and, c. Capablanca vs. Steiner covers how to remove a Pawn shield in front of a castled King, open a critcal f file and then a sacrifice to expose the King further. All 24 games range from very good to most excellent for instructional purposes.
