Synopsis

About three things I was absolutely positive:
First, Edward was a vampire.
Second, there was a part of him–and I didn’t know how dominant that part might be–that thirsted for my blood.
And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.

Isabella Swan's move to Forks, a small, perpetually rainy town in Washington, could have been the most boring move she ever made. But once she meets the mysterious and alluring Edward Cullen, Isabella's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn. Up until now, Edward has managed to keep his vampire identity a secret in the small community he lives in, but now nobody is safe, especially Isabella, the person Edward holds most dear. The lovers find themselves balanced precariously on the point of a knife -- between desire and danger.

Deeply romantic and extraordinarily suspenseful, Twilight captures the struggle between defying our instincts and satisfying our desires. This is a love story with bite.

Publishers Weekly

In our Best Books citation, PW called this tale of a teen attracted to a vampire, a "riveting first novel, equal parts suspense and romance." Ages 12-up. (Sept.) Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.

February 09, 2010: I have read all of the Twilight sagas and I always find myself coming back to this book. I don't know why but a lot of people that I have talked to will also agree with me. This is a great romantic and treturous love story about a vampire and a human. The plot of the story is located in Forks, Washington. Which is where Edward Cullen (vampire) and Bella Swan (human) meet. They fall madly in love and go through treturous adventures to help there relationship keep form falling apart. In this book Bella Swan also has a friend named Jacob Black who is a warewolf. This book from my point of view was breath taking and very exciting it keeps you on the edge of your seat while you are reading it, you may never want to put it down! Hopefully my review persuaded you to want to read this book.

I Also Recommend: New Moon.

February 09, 2010: I loved these books. The way it is written you actually feel like you are Bella and Edward is your soulmate. Edward is the perfect man and she loves him so much that you feel like you are the one that loves him while reading this. The other characters feel so real and the attatchments to eachother are strong. The whole thing about how this love is forbiden and how Edward wants to spare Bella adds so much to the tension in the books. I couldn't put any of them down, have read them more then once and can't wait for the next movie to come out...and I am a 34 yr. old mom of 5!!! These books are for all ages because younger teens can identify and since Edward is "old fashioned" the older readers can "remember when we were young"...this is a great love story and the story only gets better with each book. There is also just the right amount of action to keep it moving. Hey who hasn't wished for superpowers at some point as well. I give the highest praise!

What Parents Need to Know

About Twilight

Parents need to know that, while very mild by the standards of its genre, this is a vampire romance, so there is talk about blood and romantic kissing, as well as one battle with bloody injuries.

Families Can Talk About

Families can talk about the view of vampirism here. It sounds like a one-way ticket to superhero powers -- what's the downside? Why is Edward reluctant to let Bella become one? Why, aside from her love for Edward, might Bella want it?
