The eye-opening true story of Tom Cruise, from #1 New York Times bestselling biographer Andrew Morton
Morton's massively hyped, overly contentious and sometimes far-fetched account of Cruise's Scientology-driven life owes a lot to John Hinch's unwavering reading the material. Hinch offers a sincere, unbiased take on the material, but also manages to create a believable listening experience through his innate performance ability when assuming the roles of various characters, most notably, Cruise himself. Though there is little in the way of dialect changes and impersonation, listeners will be astounded at how close Hinch comes to capturing the Cruise persona. While the material is debatable and lacks anything profound or fresh, Hinch presents it in a way that keeps the audience thoroughly engaged throughout. Simultaneous release with the St. Martin's hardcover (reviewed online). (Jan.)

July 05, 2009: I have always been interested in Tom Cruise. I have seen just about every movie of his since Risky Business. I have to say that he is a very good actor, he has always kept me interested in just about every movie he has acted in. However, even though I knew he was a Scientologist, I never knew just how much seems to go on behind the scenes of Scientology. If we are to believe everything that was protrayed about him, then he comes across as somewhat of a controlling jerk. It has somewhat changed my view of Tom Cruise and any Christian Scientologist for that matter. I am one person who believes that what you hear or read is not always absolutely the whole truth, so I have to keep that in mind. The book was well written, but at times hard to follow. It almost seemed like too much information was being thrown at the reader. It also comes across that Andrew Morton has somewhat of a vendetta against either Tom Cruise or Scientology. The Scientology world comes across as totally controlling and I really find it hard to believe that people actually believe what they are taught to believe. I thank God that I believe in the true God and can not be misled. I think that Scientologists are being brain washed, but that's another story I guess. This book was interesting to read, but at times was a little boring too. I was glad to finally finish it. However, if you like Tom Cruise like I have always liked him, then it does open your eyes and actually answers some of the questions you may have had about his recent weird behavior. Overall, I would recommend it.
I Also Recommend: Coming Home to Myself.

May 03, 2009: I was a Tom Cruise fan before reading this book, and continue to be after reading the book. I don't think it portrayed him in a bad light at all, but was very insightful as far as his background and his climb to the great success he has had and continues to have in his career. I admire his devotion to his family and also that he never went down the path of drugs, etc like so many others within his industry. I look forward to seeing any future movies he makes!
