Clay Jensen returns home from school to find a mysterious box with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker–his classmate and crush–who committed suicide two weeks earlier.
On tape, Hannah explains that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Clay is one of them. If he listens, he'll find out how he made the list.
Through Hannah and Clay's dual narratives, debut author Jay Asher weaves an intricate and heartrending story of confusion and desperation that will deeply affect teen readers.

December 05, 2009: Jay Asher has outdone himself when it comes to "13 Reasons Why" It's one of those stories you don't want to put down and it keeps you thinking. Unlike other books nowadays it encourages good behavior and shows that the way you treat people or even the way that you react in a situation can effect someone's whole life. Definitally a book worth buying, and rereading. I would even recommend being read in school for class discussions, so people can really open up about the truth and their feelings about suicide and being shunned from society.
