    Biography

Occasionally blunt, often educational, but never boring, Thomas L. Friedman is among the best known and respected analysts of the Middle East. A three-time Pulitzer winner, his books and column for the New York Times take a no-nonsense, authoritative approach to complex global issues.

November 07, 2009: ....but I find books like this (about business and businesses) boring as all hell. This is only my opinion, mind you - I suppose if you like these kinds of books it might be utterly fascinating. But if you don't like these kinds of books then don't even pick this up. It'll put you to sleep in five minutes.

September 30, 2009: Thomas Friedman gave numerous examples throughout this book of the factors that he believes are flattening the world. Through advancements in technology, many countries are able to begin leveling the playing field for their citizens to compete in this global world. Friedman maintains that the flattening of the world began with a shift in global power caused by the fall of the Berlin Wall (p.52) and has constantly grown and evolved with the invention of the internet, the evolution of the personal computer (p. 56), and many of the capabilities that access to both of these things has allowed.

The internet has been a huge contributing factor in this new global world. Through the internet, students and business people alike can communicate and collaborate in real time. Since access to the internet is relatively cheap, it is available millions of people. The tenth flattener which Friedman calls the steroids, focuses on our need for communication in a moments notice, anywhere in the world. The steroids are what allow us to be "digitized, mobile, personal, and virtual" (p.185). This immediate access to digitized information has allows us to be accessible constantly and have any necessary (or not so necessary) information at our finger tips. The only limitations will soon be one's own imagination for using these technology devices.

While I did find this book to be excessively wordy, it was also informative and insightful.
