About the Author: Donald S. Shondell is a legend in U.S volleyball. In his 34 years as coach at Ball State University, his teams won an impressive 769 games, the second-highest all-time victory total by a men's team coach. Shondell was selected as an All-Time Great Volleyball Coach by the United States Volleyball Association and was the American Volleyball Coaches Association's Coach of the Year in 1995. He has coached many of the nation's top coaches, including former U.S. women's national team coach and current USC coach Mick Haley. He served as president of the USVA in 1978 and is a former president and cofounder of the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association. Shondell was a 1996 inductee into the Volleyball Hall of Fame. He retired from coaching in 1998. Shondell lives in Muncie, Indiana.

With more than 600 wins and 25 years of collegiate coaching experience, Cecile Reynaud ranked in the top nine in career victories among active Division I coaches when she retired from Florida State University after the 2001 season. In May of 1996, Reynaud received the George J. Fischer Leader in Volleyball award presented at the USA Volleyball national meetings. This award recognizes long-time, significant contributions to volleyball programs and activities in the United States. She is a current member of the Volleyball Hall of Fame selection committee and served 12 years on the USA Volleyball board of directors and three years on the executive committee. Reynaud was also a president of the American Volleyball Coaches Association. She lives in Tallahassee, Florida.
