I was looking for a 'real' Easter book for the kids at Barnes and Noble. Found The Very First Easter by Paul L. Maier. I can't tell you how much my girls LOVE this book. The format is a Mom and Dad telling their son about Easter based on scripture. Both the writing and the illustrations are just excellent!!!

This book clearly explains many aspects of the biblical Easter story that can be hard for modern children to understand -- such as why Jesus as an innocent man was killed as if he were a criminal, and why one set of people were cheering him on on Palm Sunday and yet a few days later others wanted him killed. Another plus to this book are the outstanding illustrations. I highly recommend this book for kids 6 and older.
