No more fairy tales for Christopher; he wants real bedtime stories. So his mother tells the amazing and miraculous story of Jesus' birth. Along the way, Christopher learns the answers to some challenging questions about the Christmas story. And all the answers are right from the Bible.
Examines the Nativity story as the origin of Christmas, viewing it in both scriptural and secular contexts.
The board book adaptation of The Very First Christmas by Paul L. Maier, illus. by Francisco Ordaz, tells the Biblical story in the simplest terms. Realistic illustrations convey the miraculous events, such as the angel's visitation to Mary, the birth of Jesus and the angels' appearance to the shepherds. Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.

November 12, 2009: The Very First Christmas was given to my family as a gift when I was a child. We loved to snuggle up and hear the real story of christmas. I now plan to share the book with my children and pass it out to my friends who have children. It is really a great book.

April 13, 2000: This book gives good explanations about aspects of the biblical Christmas story that can be difficult for kids to understand (such as, why didn't Joseph and Mary go to a motel rather than a stable?). The illustrations are gorgeous. Although this book seems to be written for an evangelical-Christian audience I think non-Christian kids would easily understand it too. I highly, highly recommend this book. It is just a *little* beyond my 5 year old's comprehension, so I think it would be best for ages 6 and above.
