November 27, 2009: This book was pretty good. It doesn't stick out in my mind terribly (although I just finished it...) but I do have some things to say about it.
First, the plot and the promised sequels sound pretty interesting. I like the premise; it promises plenty of intrigue and I love the idea of overlapping story lines and some overlap in time; much more interesting than a straight chronological series. So in that aspect I was (and I'm sure will still be) fairly satisfied. The characters were also well done. The two main characters have great chemistry and are pretty relateable. Nothing too over the top, nothing too overdone, nothing too unbelievable. Nothing unbelievable at all really. A huge plus since I've been reading some books that just make you think, "Really? I don't think so."I do have a couple complaints. I am not an expert of grammar; at least not in English. However, I do believe there were some very awkward grammatical moments, which must be rather blaring since I even managed to notice them. Most specifically, I think I will be researching proper use of conjugations for the verb "to fit". In the span of two pages, I think it was used incorrectly three times. I am most assuredly wrong, but nonetheless, it distracted me. Another thing that I found rather lacking was, I suppose, the drama. The plot went by very well, but a few times there was an action scene where I think I was thrown off by the wording. I either ended up confused and had to reread passages a couple times, or they came off as anticlimactic to me. Not too much of a disappointment considering it wasn't too frequent and other aspects of the book more than make up for it.Overall though, I thought this book was interesting and funny with a good amount of fire.I would say that prior knowledge of the Cynster cousins may give some later parts of the book some further depth; I didn't read the Cynster novels so although I don't think it took too much away from my overall understanding, I did feel as though they were some allusions I was missing out on. Moving on, this was yet another satisfying and worthwhile novel by the lovely Stephanie Laurens and I would recommend it to anyone interested in the genre.Reader Rating:

November 09, 2009: This book is great. Exceeded my expectations from the prelude to the end, I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. Finished it in one day. Del and Deliah were memorable characters, all the characters were very well fleshed out. Anytime you have a book w/ the Cynsters and the Bastion Club members in it, I am a happy camper. I can't wait for the next book. I especially hope that the last book isn't rushed or that there are endless pages of explaination that are not needed as in some series novels...Job well done, Stepanie Laurens.
