Everyone knows that the Easter Bunny comes every year with a basket of painted eggs andchocolates. But who is the Easter Bunny, and what is his story?
On a snow-cold day in a snug little house ... So begins the true story of the Easter Bunny.
A little white rabbit watches and helps an old couple make chocolate and paint Easter eggs. As each year passes, the little white rabbit helps out a little bit more until he becomes the Easter Bunny, with the help of a few furry friends.
Katherine Tegen has fashioned an original tale that explains the origin of one of childhood's favorite legends. Delicate and marvelously detailed paintings make this magical story completely believable.
A little rabbit watches an old couple paint eggs, make chocolate, and braid baskets for the village children at Easter, and he eventually becomes the Easter Bunny.
How the Easter bunny came to have his job is told with child-like wonder in The Story of the Easter Bunny by Katherine Tegen, illus. by Sally Anne Lambert. When a "round old couple" who diligently worked year after year painting eggs, weaving baskets and making chocolates can no longer do the work, their pet rabbit takes on the task himself. Muted watercolors of an endearingly antiquated town and the couple's cozy home add to the sweetness of the story. Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.
More Reviews and RecommendationsKatherine Tegen started writing stories when she was nine years old. She also wrote and printed a newspaper called "The Nutkin News" on a little printing press. She always knew she wanted to do something in publishing. After graduating from Middlebury College, she had several different publishing jobs, but she knew she had found her niche when she got a job as an editorial assistant at Harper & Row Junior Books. Katherine still loves to write stories, and she still works in publishing, now as a Vice President and Editorial Director at HarperCollins Childrens Books. She lives with her family in New York City.

March 02, 2005: My son is three years old and we wanted to introduce him to Easter in a way that would make him excited about the holiday and look forward to it without any difficult language or religious connections. This book has wonderful illustrations and leaves an opening at the end of the book that makes him wonder if the easter bunny has brought him a basket.
