    Synopsis

Tania has brought the long-lost Queen Titania back to Faerie from the Mortal World of modern London. But when they cross between the worlds, they find only devastation.

The Sorcerer King of Lyonesse -- ancient enemy of the Faerie Court -- has been released from his amber prison. As the wicked sorcerer regains his power, King Oberon, Tania's father, is imprisoned and the Faerie Court is being destroyed.

Tania and her true love, Edric, must travel the Realm to try to find and rescue King Oberon, who is their only hope for defeating the evil Sorcerer King. And Tania must prepare for battle . . . and to fight a war that she may not survive.

    Children's Literature

In the Sorcerer King, six princesses are united with their mother, Queen Titania, to save their beloved home of Faerie that has been captured and ruled by the evil King of Lyonesse. He either holds their sister Rathina captive or she has betrayed all of them. To be victorious, our heroine Tania and her true love Edric must release her father, King Oberon, from the impenetrable amber prison of Ynis Maw that holds him. With a little of Queen Titania's magic, they travel across rough terrain where they find themselves in the company of yet another enemy, Gabriel Drake. With a little luck and a lot of courage, they escape Drake and muster the power to release King Oberon. Alas, he has been held for so long that all his power has been drained and he collapses. Now the fate of Faerie must be determined by grit and determination, and maybe a little magic will find its way there too. Frewin Jones has created a delightful book that takes us all back to a simpler time to experience a fantastic tale. The characters are well defined, and the story circled around and came back to the reader bringing hope for a new day. This is book three of the series called "Faerie Path." Reviewer: Julia Beiker

April 22, 2009: First, this is (thankfully), NOT the last book in the series. #4, "The Immortal Realm," comes out May 09. Great, huh?

So, #3. Tania returns Titania back to her Realm, and just in time. The evil King of Lyonesse has been broken free and is destroying all of Faerie. Tania, her sisters, mother and her love-Edric, must find a way to free her royal father and defeat the Sor. King.

The storyline had a lot of potential, but...here's where I break from the other reviewers and say this book could have been better. F. Jones is a great storywriter, and that's the very reason I only gave this book 3 stars- she has the ability to do better than this. So, for those of you who say I might be too harsh on her, I do it because I know she has more talent than this bk. showed. I read it 3X's to be sure I was being objective, and yes, she is capable of a better telling than this. So, that's why I hope she goes back and expands the story and gives us a more thorough telling, hence a 2nd Ed.

Now, here are the reasons WHY I feel as I do. For starters, the Sor. King could have been a more menacing villain. We barely see him in the bk. Just a brief stint at the start, and then at the end. Not scary or impressive. If he's really out for revenge after bieng caged for generations, he's NOT gonna just sit on a throne and let someone else do the hunting for him. And then at the end, I'm sorry, but the fight between him and Tania (w/ her parents to help) was too fast and not believable. The whole story had this pace and feeling like Jones was just trying to get it written and published ASAP- like she was racing deadlines or something.

Also, Tania and her friends heavily depended on coincedences to save the day: Tania comes to a castle of a Faerie lord under attack just after being given a talisman that can save them/Tania, Cordy and Edric are barraged by deadly unicorns and a man just happens to be there to save them/Tania's sister Rathina comes back to their side on the eve of battle and they just happen to need all 7 sisters to defeat the Sor. King./the Sor. King just happens to need to be beaten by someone niether mortal nor Faerie and Tania just happens to be both/Tania, Edric and Cordy fall off a cliff and whales just happen to be there to save them from drowning/The day of battle Gabriel plans to use his wicked hold over Tania to ensure she loses and she just happens to develop a way THAT day to keep him out of her head/ etc. etc. etc.

See? Also their are other things. Tania and co. go on a long (and boring) journey through Faerie to free her father and little if anything happens. You basically go on a sight seeing tour w/ them- see the pretty flowers? The tall trees? The animals? Yes, the descriptions are great, but the story freezes for it temporarily. Also, in bk.s 2 & 3 Gabriel makes it plain that he has a sort of obsessed attraction to Tania, as he tries to kiss her in #2 and in #3 he plans to spare her in the war so she can marry him...but while in #2 he hunts her viciously in #3, you barely see him even though in the series he's more the arch villain than the Sor. King. What happens? You don't see him, then he gets killed and that's it? In 1 & 2 he's a terrible foe after Tania, in #3 he should have been even moreso she they were on his ground (Faerie) and he was after them via the orders of the Sor. King. So...it was a letdown. I didn't feel like Tania and co. were really in danger....

I Also Recommend: Wren to the Rescue, The Decoy Princess, Dark Whispers (Unicorn Chronicles Series #3), Gideon's Dawn, Waymaker.
