Synopsis

Xuanzand (Hsuan-tsang) was a Buddhist monk who journeyed from China to India to find the true scriptures, travelled extensively in India, and returned between 129 and 645 CE. Wriggins, based in Sri Lanka, has walked in his footsteps on the Silk Road and studied with the successors of his teachers. She describes his experiences, quoting his own account extensively. The 1996 edition was titled Xuanzang: A Buddhist Pilgrim on the Silk Road; this edition contains additional information on his many years back in China.
