    Synopsis

Gail Sheehy's landmark bestseller has become the bible for women concerned about menopause. Since The Silent Passage was originally published in the early 1990s, Gail Sheehy, a member of the board of the New York Menopause Research Foundation, has been at the forefront of the newest research on menopause. She has also continued to interview countless women throughout the country on the subject. In this updated and expanded edition, she presents essential new data in chapters on The Perimenopause Panic, Menopause in the Workplace, Estrogen and Brainpower, and New Frontiers in Treatment. Candid, enlightening, inspiring, and witty, with the latest information on everything from early menopause to Chinese medicine and natural remedies, The Silent Passage is an indispensable reference for every woman.

November 24, 2007: I had several questions about perimenopause and looking for answers about what was going on with my body and mind. This book gave me a better understanding of what I'm experiencing an what's to come. Highly recommend.

July 17, 2002: i read this book when it first came out. i believe i was in my early 40's then. i didn't even know what perimenopause was-and i was in it for about 12 years or more. i am 54 now and had my period until 53-and then i had it stopped artificially because my fibroids hurt. however, when i stopped taking lupron, it didn't come back-that is my big fear-that it my period will come back!! this book showed me how i was not alone in my perimenopausal symptoms. i have places where i underlined things. i felt like i could access the book to make sure i wasn't the only one who felt this way. the last 2 or 3 yrs. of perimenopause was horrible. it was as if another person inhabited my body. it will be a year soon since i have had a period-and my mood swings are much less, i am not as tired, and i don't have lots of hot flashes. if it is hot, i do, or if i drink hot coffee, so i keep it cool-and don't drink decaf hardly. i try to stay out of the heat. when i have them i call them 'power surges'. i am excited to enter this new stage of life. getting thru perimenopause makes you stronger.
