    Synopsis

A serial murderer known only by a grotesquely apt nickname-Buffalo Bill-is stalking women. He has a purpose, but no one can fathom it, for the bodies are discovered in different states. Clarice Starling, a young trainee at the FBI Academy, is surprised to be summoned by Jack Crawford, chief of the Bureau's Behavioral Science section. Her assignment: to interview Dr. Hannibal Lecter-Hannibal the Cannibal-who is kept under close watch in the Baltimore State Hospital for the Criminally Insane.

Dr. Lecter is a former psychiatrist with a grisly history, unusual tastes, and an intense curiosity about the darker corners of the mind. His intimate understanding of the killer and of Clarice herself form the core of The Silence of the Lambs-and ingenious, masterfully written book and an unforgettable classic of suspense fiction.

    Biography

Insightful. Cunning. Mysteriously elusive. Wickedly dark. Such descriptions could just as easily apply to novelist Thomas Harris as they could to his most famous creation -- one of the most notorious literary (and cinematic) villains of all time, Hannibal Lecter.

September 26, 2009: If you've seen the movie, I would recommend reading the book. The book gives more 'behind-the-scenes' information, such as emotions of characters not easily depicted in the movie, thoughts of characters and their motives. The book does differ from the movie in slight ways, but overall I would say the movie matched the majority of the book, line for line, and the parts that were changed for cinematic enthrallment were very much needed.

It was a good book and I would read it again. The whole Hannibal Lecter series is good.

I Also Recommend: Red Dragon, Hannibal.

June 26, 2009: I'm still shocked by this book. It's an instant classic. Can't really describe it except that it's a solid mystery/thriller novel. Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of this book.

    I Also Recommend: Red Dragon.
