      Synopsis

Star Wars is one of the most important cultural phenomena of the Western world. The tale of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and the fall and redemption of Anakin Skywalker has become modern myth, an epic tragedy of the corruption of a young man in love into darkness, the rise of evil, and the power of good triumphing in the end.

But it didn’t start out that way.

In this thorough account of one of cinema’s most lasting works, Michael Kaminski presents the true history of how Star Wars was written, from its beginnings as a science fiction fairy tale to its development over three decades into the epic we now know, chronicling the methods, techniques, thought processes, and struggles of its creator. For this unauthorized account, he has pored through over four hundred sources, from interviews to original scripts, to track how the most powerful modern epic in the world was created, expanded, and finalized into the tale an entire generation has grown up with.

December 08, 2008: I have just about every piece of adult/fan-oriented Star Wars literature published since the Zahn Trilogy back in the mid-90's and aside from Star Wars: The Annotated Screenplays and Skywalking: The Life and Films of George Lucas this Book takes the cake for anyone who just hungers for more insight and information into the process undertaken by George Lucas and all those involved in creating the saga of a galaxy far, far away!

For anyone who has ever soaked up the small sound-bites and pieces of information regarding these films from sporadic interviews with key players in the saga's creation for the past thirty years, much of the information presented in this work will make you smile! Michael Kaminski has taken just about every source known to Star Wars junkies and presented it here in a readable, methodical presentation for anyone interested in Star Wars, film and storytelling.

I highly recommend this book as a gift for any Star Wars fan you may know. If you?re thinking of the friend or family member who becomes engulfed in Star Wars related documentaries from the DVD sets or the specials on the Discovery and History Channels, then look no further. This book not only covers the creative decisions and key events which shaped both trilogies, but also serves as the best, most organized source for the infamous sequel trilogy which will probably never be!

Once again, Michael Kaminski has given a must-read gift to Star Wars fans! I have followed this work through his awesome website which has chronicled his various updates and editions. I am now glad to have it available to me in the way it should ? as a book which cannot be put down. However, don?t worry! If you still feel the need to feed on even more Star Wars information, then try the site yourself for additional articles which complement this fine and passionate work! I Also Recommend: Skywalking, Star Wars The Annotated Scripts, The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia, Star Wars Chronicles, Star Wars Chronicles.
