February 08, 2006: The book the Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett was a very cute book. It always kept me interested and it was very hard to put it down at times. It is about a little girl named Mary Lennox who is forced to go and live with her uncle, who she had no knowledge of before this point, because of the sudden death of her parents. The house, Misselthwaite Manor, she moves into is very big and there are a lot of mysterious things happening, especially the strange noises she hears at night. At the beginning Mary is not a very nice little girl and it takes her some time until she is able to make friends. Because of this she spends most of her time outside exploring the moor alone. Ben Weatherstaff is a gardener for Misselthwaite Manor who she meets one day as she is exploring. She also meets a bird that has befriended Ben and the bird becomes her key to finding the secret garden. Her uncle, Mr. Craven, is always out of town on trips so she rarely ever sees him. Towards the end of the story he ends up leaving on a very long trip. After some time has passed someone in the house writes him a letter telling him to come home as soon as he can for many different reasons. When he gets home he is shocked to find many surprises with the people and places in his house. As a result of this many lives are changed. As the main character, Mary ends up growing a lot throughout the story in a short period of time. She learns to be a better person through her experiences and her bad attitude is changed into a positive and helpful one.
