    Synopsis

After a summer spent trying to prevent a catastrophic war among the Greek gods, Percy Jackson finds his seventh-grade school year unnervingly quiet. His biggest problem is dealing with his new friend, Tyson-a six-foot-three, mentally challenged homeless kid who follows Percy everywhere, making it hard for Percy to have any "normal" friends.

But things don't stay quiet for long. Percy soon discovers there is trouble at Camp Half-Blood: the magical borders which protect Half-Blood Hill have been poisoned by a mysterious enemy, and the only safe haven for demigods is on the verge of being overrun by mythological monsters. To save the camp, Percy needs the help of his best friend, Grover, who has been taken prisoner by the Cyclops Polyphemus on an island somewhere in the Sea of Monsters, the dangerous waters Greek heroes have sailed for millennia-only today, the Sea of Monsters goes by a new name.the Bermuda Triangle.

Now Percy and his friends-Grover, Annabeth, and Tyson-must retrieve the Golden Fleece from the Island of the Cyclopes by the end of the summer or Camp Half-Blood will be destroyed. But first, Percy will learn a stunning new secret about his family-one that makes him question whether being claimed as Poseidon's son is an honor or simply a cruel joke.

    Child Magazine

In a comic blend of Greek mythology and modern life, our protagonist, Percy (a half-god, half-human with ADHD), finds himself in a seventh-grade dodgeball game overrun by giant cannibalistic monsters. Trouble continues to follow Percy and his classmates as they journey to the Sea of Monsters -- aka the Bermuda Triangle -- to save not only Camp Half-Blood (a summer haven for demigods), but Percy's satyr friend Grover, who's being held hostage by a Cyclops, and, oh yes, all of Western Civilization. Featuring the cliff-hangers and sassy attitude kids loved in The Lightning Thief -- plus a surprising new family secret -- this outstanding sequel should win over a fresh legion of fans. December 02, 2009: The main characters are Percy, Grover, Annabeth, and Clarisse. Percy is a boy that gets in trouble almost all the time. Grover is a nervous boy. Annabeth is a girl that thinks she knows everything and Clarisse is a girl that holds a grudge because Percy defeated her father in a battle.

The story starts with Percy going back to Camp Half blood. An old enemy, Luke, poisoned the camp, so Percy went on a quest to find the golden fleece and save the camp. The fleece makes things come to life. So Percy went to the Sea of Monsters to get the golden fleece and to save his friend Grover. When Percy and his friends left they found a ship and spent the night on it. The next morning they met Luke. Luke challenged Percy to a duel. Then Percy and his friends jumped out of the boat and on to a lifeboat. He used his thermos of winds to get away.

They met up with Clarisse in a jungle and after getting on a new ship they kept on going to the Sea of Monsters. The ship wrecked so Percy and Annabeth got on a life raft and drifted to an island. There was a woman there who turned Percy into a guinea pig. Percy was saved by Annabeth when she gave him a special pill. Then they found an abandoned pirate ship and continued to the Sea of Monsters. They got there and fought a giant Cyclops. They won the fight and found the fleece which saved Grover and Camp Half Blood.

It takes time in the present and takes place in the ocean and on islands.

The theme is that friendship is the best thing you can have in a bad situation.

I liked the book because I love mythology and fantasies and it was a large book full of adventure.

I can relate to the book because I have a little brother like Percy has.

The real world can connect to the Sea of Monsters, because in the real world people need friends.

Some similar books are the Lightning Thief and The Titans Curse.

December 01, 2009: The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan

The protagonists in the story are Percy Jackson, Annabeth, Grover (a Cyclops) and Tyson. Percy is a young boy who can't seem to get past the seventh grade. Percy thinks that the only cool part about his life is that he is the son of one of the three great gods, POSEIDON. Annabeth is a young female who is a demigod. A demigod is a half human half god creature. Annabeths mom is Athena. Grover has been on a quest to look for the KING of all Cyclops, Pan, after he disappeared. And Tyson is a poor homeless child that has been laughed at his whole life. Later both Tyson and Percy find out that they are both rightful brothers.

The plot of the story is that Percy after dealing with some dreadfully rude giants escapes away from school to visit camp Half Blood. As soon as he gets there he realizes that the border that protects the camp from both humans and monsters is fading. After he checks out Thalias tree he notices that the only way he could possibly to save camp half blood is to go out and find the Golden Fleece. Percy has to go through many dangerous places in order to reach the location of the Golden Fleece.

The time of the setting is in the present day time. The other setting is all over the world because Percy has to travel very often. He travels both by land and by sea.

The theme of the story "the sea of monsters" is all about Percy going in search of a golden fleece. The Golden Fleece (he thinks) will save camp half blood from all the monsters surrounding the huge area.

I LOVED this story more than the first book (the lightning thief). Although the first book was very good I would definitely say that the second book is way better. The reason is because the sea of monsters is action packed with a guarantee of non stop action. Plus this book has much more new characters than the first book. That is why I absolutely positively no doubt LOVE this book.

I connected to the book many times but I am only going to list a few for you. The first connection I made was with Annabeth. I connected to her because when Percy Jackson was turned into a guinea pig and she felt that all was lost and there was nothing else she could do and then BAM an idea popped into her head. That's how I felt when I was playing tag with my friends. As soon as my cousins grabbed the last girl besides me I felt like I was going to burst out because I was the last one and it was all up to me or the games would be over and their team would win for the 3rd time. Then as I was running to tag one of my friends so she could be free and BAM an idea popped right into my head. After that our team won for the first time. A 2nd connection that I had was with Percy Jackson. I had a connection to him because when he thought that Tyson was dead he kept on saying to himself that he believes that Tyson is still alive and out there somewhere. And then sure enough Tyson does appear at the strangest time. I have connected to this because once when my dad was in the hospital and I kept telling myself that he is going to make it and you don't have to worry about anything. Then sure enough he did make it out perfectly and healthy. But of course he does have to stay home until January 1st.

And that's the end of this review.

I Also Recommend: BFG, Maximum Ride, Girls Rule!, Mouse and the Motorcycle, The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series #1).
