      Synopsis

Jerry Dumbarton is a normal, fit, thirty two year old, who lives in Cambridge. Unbeknown to him, his whole life is about to change as he is the Chosen One, the person who has been selected to replenish the current Good Lord and to live for a thousand years. But first he must prove himself worthy; he must find and solve the clues that lead to the Prize, the object that will bring peace and happiness to the race of man, and then he must recover it from where it has been hidden these last thousand years.

Jerry is supported by his two closest friends; Julia Evans, Jules to her friends, an attractive and intelligent thirty one year old blonde, and Pete Potts, a thirty two year old computer genius. Together the three of them embark on their journey, hunting down the clues and solving them in order to discover the pathway to the Prize.

During their journey they meet the current Good Lord and his five Guardians, they come across the Evil Lord and his two side-kicks, and they learn more about what is in store for the race of man, and some important hitherto unknown facts about our past.

Join Jerry, Jules, and Pete in their adventure, and, if you want to, you can try to solve the clues for them, before they do, for everything you need to know to find the prize is in the text, although an Internet connection would also be useful.

      Can you find the prize?

The Quest for the Prize is a whodunit, but with a neat twist - a real treasure hunt around England,by JennyH03

January 06, 2009: I have now read this book twice, and definitely found it a very enthralling read, which has sucked me into trying to solve the challenge the author set for us.

The characters are believable with very good dialogue in places, and the whole mystery around the prize, what it is, and where it is hidden, has certainly captured my imagination.

Jerry and his two colleagues have embarked on a quest to find an ancient and well-hidden prize. We do not know what the prize is (although there are apparently clues hidden in the story) and we do not know where it is hidden.

Five clues (verses) have been found by Jerry and solved, yet they led to what we are told is not the prize. So here lies the quandary: some of the clues (maybe all) are incorrectly solved. We can (if we want to, and there is by no means and requirement to actually do so) try and solve the clues correctly to find out where the prize is actually hidden.

So the Quest for the Prize is a sort of whodunit, but with a neat twist. It is really a treasure hunt around England, but one where you do not need any degree in history or religious studies to be able to take part. All of the clues are out in the open, and only by solving them all correctly can the pathway to the prize be revealed.

I can imagine that there are many people out there now who are trying to unravel this mystery. I am certainly one of them?.

      Jenny.

December 28, 2008: I have read this book, several times now, and it is a puzzle, and it is not. What I mean is, just reading the story is fun and rewarding, but then taking on the challenge to actually find the prize yourself (something I chose to do, and am following up via the Barnes and Noble community room) - well that takes reader participation to a new level.

The book is well written and easy to read. The dialogue is fun - especially between the main characters and if you enjoy adventure, mystery, excitement, tension, and even a hint of romance, then there is something for you in this story.

In the mean time, I hope that I can find some people out there who will join me on this quest, and together we can try and solve the verses to work out where the Prize is actually hidden...
