He really, really, REALLY wants one. He'll take really good care of it! What's the matterdon't you want him to be happy?
The latest book in the best-selling Pigeon series is the funniest one yet.
Willems proves once more that crayoned ornithology and impassioned monologues to the reader…can roost indefinitely in literature's rafters. In The Pigeon Wants a Puppy! the reader is encouraged to argue with the Pigeon, who tries everything from syrupy charm to hissy fits in hopes of persuading us to buy him the pet of his dreams. As with all the Pigeon volumes, from Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! onward, the ending involves one of those twists that seems obvious only in retrospect, and the artwork has Willems's trademark deadpan hysteria. This pigeon is really going placesalthough not, sadly, to the pet store.
More Reviews and RecommendationsMo Willems, a number one New York Times best-selling author and illustrator, has been awarded a Caldecott Honor on three occasions (for Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!, Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Tale, and Knuffle Bunny Too: A Case of Mistaken Identity). Other favorites include Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed and Leonardo, the Terrible Monster. Mo began his career on Sesame Street, where he garnered six Emmy Awards.
