May 21, 2008: I'm a huge stand up comedy fan and saw Mr. Lewis promote this memoir on various TV shows. Although I knew he was in recvovery for a long time, I bought the book as he has made me laugh in a profound way, many, many times since the 80's. To be frank, I expected a typial book written by a comedian and I was floored by his free-flowing, literary style style and more so by the content of this stirring memoir. He clearly has based his whole career and persona on stage from being as honest as he could be and apparently had the need to leave no secerts secret whether they were horrifying or excruciatingly funny albeit revealing. It was a quick read and a look into the soul of a tormented artist who fortunateley for fans of his comedy continues to fight all his demons with a huge sense of humor as well. After speaking to recovering alcoholic friends of mine I discovered that it gave them a lot of hope 'and laughs' to contine their sobriety. Addiction is a serious deal I yunderstand much more now as somehow Lewis knows how to connect the dots to his landmine-filled life and offer hope, laughs and great insight into thus dark world.
