An eclectic, surprising, and utterly entertaining compendium, The Order of Things compiles a very astonishing diversity of information—the natural, the social, the mathematical, the mystical—into hundreds of charts, systems, lists, and hierarchies. From Barbara Ann Kipfer, who mastered the art of the list with her bestselling 14,000 Things to Be Happy About, this is a book for browsing, for research, and for the sheer pleasure of learning new things.
Barbara Ann Kipfer is the author of more than 45 books, ranging from 14,000 Things to Be happy About to Roget’s International Thesaurus, 6th Edition. She holds numerous degrees, including a Ph.D. and M.Phil. in linguistics, a Ph.D. in archaeology, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Buddhist studies. She is the lexicographer for Wolfram|Alpha. October 24, 2009: I love reference books, so I thought myself very lucky to find this near the register. I had a coupon, and just when I thought I wasn't going to find anything, there it was. I like how it covers every subject, even areas that you never knew had hierarchies. Its compact size also makes it very handy for that moment you have a question, and you just don't want to go through the hassle of googling something.
I Also Recommend: An Incomplete Education.
