With millions of copies in print since its first publication, J.B. Phillips' The New Testament in Modern English, the first major 20th Century interpretation of the New Testament - recently updated - remains a fresh and accurate account of the greatest story ever told. This is the authoritative, classic translation from the latest and best Greek text published by the United Bible Societies, recognized by scholars of all denominations as the best source available.
J.B. Phillips died in 1983. A canon of the Anglican church, his works include The Newborn Christian and his highly acclaimed translation The New Testament in Modern English.

October 15, 2002: I have been reading the King James version of the bible for years and have always found it hard to understand it's language. This translation has helped me comprehend Romans and Hebrews in a way that I never have before in reading the KJV and other translations.(No offense to KJV lovers!) After reading the Phillip's version, I feel like for the first time I can articulate the gospel to others with greater confidence and enthusiasm because I understand it! This is simply an outstanding labor of love on Phillip's part for those of us who have been struggling.

February 22, 2001: I would definitely recommend this book, especially to individuals who are new to the New Testament, or to those put off by archaic translations. I know how much work must have gone into the word-by-word and phrase-by-phrase examination of the text, because I, too, have placed biblical text into more contemporary language, though my work was specifically concerned with Genesis and Job (see 'A New Beginning' by Eric Westra, 2000). Anyway, it was a pleasure being able to see the almost overly familiar be put clearly into a new light so that one may experience it as if it were for the first time. Great book!
