    Synopsis

When you are starting at a brand-new school, you have to wear something good.

Allie Finkle's starting her first day of school at Pine Heights Elementary! Plus, she's getting a new kitten, the first pick of show cat Lady Serena Archibald's litter!

But being the New Girl is turning out to be scary, too, especially since one of the girls in Allie's new class -- Rosemary -- doesn't like her. In fact, Rosemary says she's going to beat Allie up after school.

Everyone seems to have an opinion on how Allie should handle the situation. How can Allie tell who's right? Who knew it was going to be so hard being the New Girl?

Praise for Meg and Allie Finkle:

"In Cabot's first foray into novels for kids who are still in single digits, her trademark frank humor makes for compulsive reading -- as always." -- Publishers Weekly, starred review

"Meg Cabot is chick-lit royalty." -- Newsweek

"Meg Cabot...crowns another winning heroine." -- Family Fun Magazine

"Allie Finkle, a credible, intelligent, funny nine-year-old heroine whom readers and parents alike can embrace." -- Shelf Awareness

    Children's Literature

It's always difficult and stressful for a young girl to start her first day at elementary school. It is not any different for Allie Finkle in this second book of "The New Girl" series. Allie has her hands full in this tale, not only because she is starting her first day at Pine Heights Elementary School but also because she is getting a new kitten. In addition, Allie runs into problems when one of the girls in her new class, named Rosemary, decides she doesn't like Allie. What's worse is that Rosemary even threatens to beat up Allie after school. This book is a charmer that any child can relate to. The chapter titles alone would draw a child into reading this book, from "Rule #1: When You Are Starting Your First Day Ever at a Brand New School, You Have to Wear Something Good, So people Will Think You're Nice," through "Rule #4: When Someone Decides She's Going to Beat You Up, the Best Thing to Do is Hide," the reader is drawn into the routine problems of kids this age. A winner. Reviewer: Joan Elste

February 14, 2009: Allie Finkle is a very amicable person. She loves animals. I've read the first two books and  waiting for the third to come out in March. If you enjoy friendship stories then this is the book for you.

November 06, 2008: After having moved with her family to a new neighborhood in a slightly creepy old house, Allie is the "New Girl" at Pine Heights Elementary.

Being the New Girl isn't all that easy. Sure, she's made some great new friends and she loves her new teacher. She even gets to go home for lunch because her house is only two blocks away from school. But there is a girl in her class, Rosemary, who isn't so fond of Allie and even threatens to beat her up. Allie keeps getting advice from everyone about what do about the whole Rosemary situation, but she has no idea which thing is the right thing.

During all of this school drama, Allie is also worrying about her future kitten, Mewsette. The mother of her kitten gave birth to her litter early, so all the little kitties are premature.

Poor Allie, what's a New Girl to do?

Awww, this was a really cute second book to the ALLIE FINKLE'S RULES FOR GIRLS series. I loved it! I'm happy Ms. Cabot started writing for younger readers. My cousin is going to love this when I give it to her for her birthday next month. Definitely have your little sisters (or even little brothers) check it out. Hopefully, they'll like it -- Allie is such a fun girl!
