      Synopsis

Small and insignificant Bastian Balthazar Bux is nobody's idea of a hero, least of all his own. Then, through the pages of an ancient, mysterious book, he discovers the enchanted world of Fantastica, and only Bastian himself can save the fairy people who live there.

      Annotation

Shy, awkward Bastian is amazed to discover that he has become a character in the mysterious book he is reading and that he has an important mission to fulfill.

Was amazed to find that the movie only covered the first 1/3 of the book!!by Hosanna

February 14, 2009: I loved this movie when I was a kid, so I bought both the DVD and the book for my son and I (when I bought the Princess Bride DVD and movie which my son loved.)

I was amazed to find that the movie only covered a small portion of the book. The rest of the book is still an adventure, that is deeply imaginative - creatively funny - and captivatingly ingenious.

I hate a book or movie that is predictable, and this book was far from it. And yet it tied most of the loose ends with a little bow. The other loose ends are another story, and will be talked about another time =)

I Also Recommend: Iron Ring, The Princess Bride, His Dark Materials Boxed Set, Eragon (Inheritance Cycle #1), Dragon Rider.

I've seen the movie numerous times, but I had never read the book.by Jilseponie

February 01, 2009: I can say that the movie follows the book extremely well, except the movie is only the first third of the book. Bastian's story continues with his wishes recreating the world of Fantastica. He learns much about himself and his place in his world. The adventures he has in Fantastica are as incredible as Atreyu's and the world Ende created is absorbing. The book is as addictive to the reader as 'The Neverending Story' is to Bastian.
